Transport:
Families must organise their own transport.
Please note that your rower’s arrival time will vary dependent on their race schedule. After your rower arrives we expect them to stay for the full regatta to support their squad.
Boat loading - Thursday 2 November
Boat loading for the regatta will take place this Thursday after school. The bus will be leaving MAGS at 3.15pm from the usual place for all Year 9 and 10s and any Year 11 and 12 students who are on study leave but wish to travel on the bus. All rowers are expected to attend boat loading please. Boat loading will be finished at approximately 6pm.
All rowers, including novices, need to bring a 10mm spanner for all boat loading and unloading. Please make sure you get one in time for boat loading this week.
Arrival time and location - Sunday 5 November
All rowers and coxswains need to be at Lake Pupuke at least 90 minutes before their first race.
Parents, please drop your rower at Sylvan Park Avenue, off Kitchener Road, Takapuna. There is no parking on Sylvan Park Avenue; you will be able to drop your rower/coxswain at the drop-off area beside the entrance to Sylvan Park.
Free parking is available on the streets on the seaward side of Kitchener Road and along Shakespeare Road and nearby streets.
Rowers and coxswains, we will let you know where the MAGSROW tent is located at Sylvan Park when this information is communicated to us this week. On the day, please look out for the MAGSROW-branded Navy-blue gazebo and the MAGSROW boat trailer.
What to bring
WERC rowsuit
Boat park uniform: Blue and gold t-shirt, navy blue shorts and a MAGS or MAGSROW navy hoodie. No mufti should be worn.
Row shoes
MAGSROW hat, sunglasses (if required) and sunscreen
Two water bottles (one for water, one for Replace)
Enough food for yourself for the whole day (there are food stalls, but please bring enough food as it is a busy day and you may not have time to go looking for food)
Depending on the weather forecast, please bring warm clothes, thermals, raincoat etc - the weather forecast looks good at the moment but the weather can be changeable so please arrive prepared for anything.
Pick up time and location
The last race of the day is scheduled for 3.13pm. Following racing, all rowers and coxswains will be involved in loading boats for their return to WERC. Rowers and coxswains will be ready to be collected at around 4.30pm (as long as things run on time), Rowers and coxswains, please communicate with parents/carpool around the exact pick-up time
Parents, please do not enter Sylvan Park Avenue to collect your child at the end of the day as it will be very congested with boat trailers leaving. Rowers and coxswains will exit the site and make their way to you in your vehicle.
Boat unloading after event
Parents, once you have collected your child at the end of the day, please proceed directly to WERC for boat unloading. The full MAGSROW squad is expected at WERC to unload boats (unless you have an NCEA exam on Monday, in which case you are excused). Coaches will post on the WhatsApp groups the estimated pick up time from WERC about 30 minutes prior.
Information for families and supporters
There is a spectators area on the bank directly in front of the BBQ and kiosk. Look out for the MAGSROW flag as parents usually congregate around that.
Please bring: deck chairs or picnic rug, sun umbrella (or rain umbrella, depending on the weather!), sunhats, sunglasses, sunscreen, binoculars (if you have them), warm clothes, rain jacket etc., depending on the weather forecast
There is some food available at the lake - BBQ stall and kiosk with coffee, cold drinks, home baking etc., and it is a short walk along Kitchener Road to Milford Village which has cafes and a supermarket
Please do not go into the boat park area or to the MAGSROW tent unless you are rostered on duty, as it is very busy and it is easy to get in the way of the boats being carried up and down to the start and finish pontoons.
Dogs are usually allowed at Sylvan Park but be aware it can be hot as there is little shade on the spectators bank.
ROWIT (https://rowit.nz/) is where you can find information about all the rowing regattas, including events, schedules, entries and results. This is a very handy tool to track your rower and the rest of the MAGSROW squad, either while you are at a regatta or from home. Some of the parents who have been around for a season or
